Op Shop Finds ... End of Winter 2011 Edition

an ode to Edna ...

My workmate Colleen's mum has been all over her memory and her house to find things that she no longer has a use for that she knows I will love and appreciate. These goodies came all the way from near Armidale NSW ... around 5 hours from here.

Again, thanks Edna and Colleen and I'll be sending Edna something as a thank you for her lovely thoughts in passing on these lovely items.

Here is just a small selection of what is now in my possession.

My absolute favourite item

and may I add there are FOUR of them!!! ...

I couldn't get a great pic of them but they are glass federal fruit jars complete with lids  - pretty tall and PERFECT for the lolly buffet at the wedding ... after washing these I came up with a genius idea in paying homage to their previous purpose ... fill them with lolly bananas, strawberries and cream, pineapples and something like starburst.

The search for vases/jars is now complete!

plus 2 x actual!!! Mason jars ... I am so spoilt.

DSC03449

as well as ...

Cutlery to add to the wedding collection INCLUDING bone handled knives. Those things are like gold these days and I cannot express how grateful I am that she passed these on!

There are plenty more items I haven't showcased just yet but will do in the near future ...

And since we're on the subject, I'll also do a shout out to myself and mum for finding more great pretties for the wedding.

I've found

... plenty of Johnson Australia, some gorgeous Japanese teacups and some English Swinnertons side plates.

Op Shop Finds - May Edition

These days my focus when I visit a garage sale or op shop is first and foremost to head to the crockery section to search for vintage plates, bowls and cups for our wedding. For a little while I wasn't really very confident that we would be able to collect enough, but now I'm 100% positive that we will get there. We are also using old silver forks and spoons and bone handled knives. I've already wrangled in all the aunties for a mass polishing day closer to the big day.

This week I also experienced the mayhem of a monthly $5 fill-a-bag sale at Salvos. It was crazy but I did manage to pick up quite a few vintage blouses, crochet hangers, pants, a jacket, some Alfred Meakin plates and some shoes. Mum and I also took a trip to a country op not too far from home. The sweetest blue and white cloud dress was my purchase of the day ... may need some attention though from my g-ma-ma to dramatically shorten the vintage masterpiece.

Here is just a snippet of my latest bargains.

Work Outfit Challenge - Day 83. Straight down the Middle.

Good morning! Decided to live on the edge this morning and tried a middle part for the first time in YEARS. Sissy, what do you think? I actually think it makes my face look a bit rounder but willing to accept all sorts of feedback - remember I LOVE YOUR COMMENTS!

The skirt I am wearing today is actually a low back maxi I picked up at Vinnies a few months back but took it home and wasn't really keen on its slim fit. I may have actually lost a bit of weight because if the sun was-a-shining I might even wear it and not be too concerned about any lumps or bumps. Necklace is new too - snapped up at the Diva sale for $5 - I think reduced from $25. If I hadn't proclaimed it before, I LOVE DIVA SALES!

Thinking I might go pick up some winter staples this afternoon - I barely have any long sleeve tops and living in a climate as lovely as Toowoomba is in winter they are a necessity.

Till tomorrow, over and out.

Digging a hole to China

Mum and I hit the jackpot on Saturday to add to the mismatched china for the wedding. They are a mix of old English and Australian pieces and exactly what I'm looking for.

These are some of my favourites.

Check out other items in my collection here.

I also picked up some new items to add to my ever growing wardrobe - who could resist for $5 for a whole bag? I hope to try out the colour blocking trend soon with some of these new pieces so keep an eye out!

Happy treasure hunting xxx

Work Outfit Challenge - Day 76. Fulfilling Needs.

It feels like FOREVER since I've been op shopping. Well no, let me rephrase that. It feels like forever since I went op shopping and actually got something I wanted to share with all of you guys. And I MISS it! There is barely a week that goes by that I don't at least visit one oppie but my knack for finding AMAZING things seems to have left the building. At lunchtime some of us girls here at work will visit an op. We hear that one of the shops I very rarely visit has a fill a bag sale so that might be our destination. It used to be a shop where everything was WAY overpriced and basically shit but I'm willing to give it a go as they have changed their ways and everything is apparently like under $10. This weekend I think I'll also visit the vintage wardrobe. We are lucky to have a specialised Lifeline in town that only carries vintage stuff. They used to be VERY reasonable in price but in the last year or so have really increased their prices. I'm looking for some vintage blouses so am hoping they have some for around $5 or at least under $10. Oooh, and there is a car boot sale this Saturday which I can't wait for. Last year's event was exciting so hopefully this one will be even better. Wish me luck!

Today I'm wearing this dress from asos. Man I can't stay away from asos - bloody free shipping!! I want them to take it away. But I don't want them to take it away. Is anyone else asos obsessed?

Did I mention I love ruffles?? ... Not as cute as the model, but I'm no model and the lighting is terrible. Oh and I wasn't vain today - I washed my hair this morning and let the frizz flag fly.

Flea Market Finds - April Style

This weekend just passed was one of the weekends I most look forward to during the year. Why? Because the bestest church sale in all of the region is held and all promises and keeps it promise to sell loads and loads of interesting, retro and CHEAP stuff.

I didn't get as much as I'd hoped but still came away with some awesome finds. I got some great vintage clothing pieces which I'll be wearing sometime soon as well as a couple of books for the wedding table settings.

Some favourites

15 x Johnson Australia and various old English makers plates for $2 - great additions to the mismatched crockery collection for the wedding!

DSC02837

The cute floral English side plate was 50c.

DSC02836

This adorable Queen Anne tea cup, saucer and side plate set for $2 - for those at the wedding that would prefer to indulge in a cuppa rather than a beer or vino.

DSC02840

And just as I was about to pay I spotted these gorgeous beauties for 50c each. LOVE THEM and I think mum was a little jealous.

DSC02845

At a separate garage sale the weekend before I picked up my latest and greatest Glomesh bag to date. I got it new in the box for $4 and was totally chuffed. Later that night when I used it I realised it did have a slight flaw. The inside is lined with something like felt and basically it put this dust like substance over everything in my bag - if I use it from now on I need to use a snap lock bag or something to protect all my things. Anyone got any other solutions?

           DSC02850

Yesterday was also a great day for bargain hunting. The town of Murphy's Creek which was devastated by the wall of water in January just down the range from Toowoomba held a jumble sale for all of the left over donations they received. It was HEAVEN. I just about filled a black extra large garbage bag for $30 including 2 pairs of Diana Ferrari heels and a pair of gorgeous ruffle I love Billy t-bar heels for mum. I picked up some great stuff including a gorgeous Zara jacket, some Lorna Jane pieces, heaps of jeans and a super cute Wish skirt. All up I think I got between 40 and 50 items ... for 30 buckaroonies! Some of it I'll be listing on eBay - the other stuff you'll see me wearing sometime soon.

Happy opping and treasure hunting.

Oh, and remember I'm holding a GIVEAWAY ... please join!
