Digging a hole to China

Mum and I hit the jackpot on Saturday to add to the mismatched china for the wedding. They are a mix of old English and Australian pieces and exactly what I'm looking for.

These are some of my favourites.

Check out other items in my collection here.

I also picked up some new items to add to my ever growing wardrobe - who could resist for $5 for a whole bag? I hope to try out the colour blocking trend soon with some of these new pieces so keep an eye out!

Happy treasure hunting xxx

Work Outfit Challenge - Day 54.

p 395

This is quite well what I could look like today. I sent a question to our singer we (thought) we'd booked for the wedding and he's written back to say that he is booked out on that day. Until he's written back I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt - maybe he has got confused and we are actually his booking for that day. If not, I'm going to be soooo angry. Isn't it common decency to check with someone who has made a booking (even if you think it's a tentative booking) to confirm that they would like to lock in the booking before agreeing to take another job? I am just so disappointed - his charge was very reasonable and he said he'd play from like 3pm till midnight and he plays all the stuff we love. I was so looking forward to dancing the night away with my nearest and dearest. I hope that I'll be able to report back some good news that it was all just a misunderstanding. Is this the bridezilla coming out in me?

Anyway, I guess I'll have to build a bridge and get on with my day. On a brighter note I've discovered more and more people are visiting my blog. My friend Jess sent me a pic of one of her facebook friend's posts where she shares my blog link. She writes:

Stumbled across this fantastic blog, and it happens to be by a local girl. Check it out.

Thanks Danielle for liking and sharing my blog with your friends! I also had a lovely comment from Carli to say she loved my blog and that I have another new follower. Thanks Carli! Love that people are spreading the word. Sometimes blogging feels a little pointless when we analyse the amount of followers we have but maybe we just need to ignore the actual number and pay more attention to the lovely comments and encouragement we receive in person, from friends of friends and on the blog itself.

I picked up this dress from Supre last week - I'm not really one to go browse in there with the teeny-boppers but couldn't resist when I walked past and saw a 50% off the marked price sign on the window. Turned out most items were $2.50. I got a top, a jumpsuit and three what I'm calling sloppy Sunday dresses for $15! And yes, I am wearing said sloppy Sunday dress on Friday. This one is a little less sloppy.

Latest finds - florals, easels & picnics

The thrifting gods have not been all that kind lately and my purchases have been very few and far between. I've been aching (so to speak) for a yes! moment (referred to here in my first ever post) and am still holding out hope to experience one soon.

If you couldn't be bothered following the link, my type of yes! moment involves me (peeing my pants with excitement) squealing internally and 'oh what a feeling' jumping up and down in my head to think that:

  1. someone has given this away
  2. I managed to snap it up before someone else did!!!

The boy and I took the Lowood detour I talked about on Friday on the way home from Brisbane on Saturday morning but the excitement was short lived when the oh-so-promising sounding garage sale had shut up shop. What a waste of time that was!

Anyway, I have a few things to showcase this week ...

I picked up this pretty Royal Doulton plate for the massive sum of about 50c at Vinnies during the week to add to my wedding plate collection.

I snapped up this picnic basket with room for wine a while ago and (eek) now believe I have a collection. There is some saying floating around blog land that basically says two is a pair (or something similar) and three is a collection. I actually haven't used any of them for picnics but think I'll have to organise a bit of a wine and cheese event in the park with the girls!

Last but not least was actually picked up at the tip shop yesterday after visiting the supposed posh trash and treasure sale (more on that soon.) I'm actually not all that keen on the tip shop. The whole place smells, you feel dirty and it's a little pricey. I thought I'd finished looking (with no success) but then did another loop outside and saw this easel. I thought $8 was a bit much so offered the front counter dude $6 which he declined a couple of times. With a bit of coaxing he reluctantly held his hand out and accepted the offer. Why, oh why do I want an easel you ask?

It's going to become a bit of a project for the wedding ... With a decent sized piece of timber and some trusty blackboard paint I'm hoping to create something like this (but shabby vintage chic of course):

I'm off to spend my lunch break doing my favourite thing in the world ... shopping, the second hand way.

"I will only have six beers"

So my partner and I are heading on an Asian adventure in October and are madly scrimping and saving to pay it off by the end of June. Now I am without doubt what you would find if you looked up 'shopaholic' in the dictionary. I am constantly thinking about shopping. I get at least 20 emails every day advertising fashion sales, discounts, searches I've saved on eBay amongst other shopping related communications. I habitually check out sites like

http://forums.vogue.com.au/
, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/, http://www.buckscoop.com.au/deals/?order_by=Newest+Hottest and http://blogs.news.com.au/couriermail/shopsmart/ just in case I've missed some sort of great deal on what most of the time is something I do not need or already own in a slightly different colour or style.

So the boy tells me the other day that until the holiday is paid for that he has set the following restrictions:

  • I am not allowed to shop retail - this includes eBay but I can op shop and do garage sales
  • He will not drink more than 6 beers when he goes to the pub - something I thought he would never voluntarily enter himself in to and a restriction that he is highly likely not to be able to adhere to
So anyway, I'm going fine so far. Please note it has been less than a week!!!

Any SALE related email that makes its way into my inbox is deleted straight away to remove all temptation and offers of trips to the shops are quickly dismissed as I would not like to test out my willpower. It is actually quite a difficult challenge but one that I'm hoping I can complete. So the next two months I'll post cool stuff I get at op-shops and garage sales. I truly love the thrill of digging through racks and drawers of
pre-loved dresses, tops, shoes and especially vintage clutches and finding something that you just want to yell out 'YES!!!!!!!!' (as in) how cool that:

  1. someone has given this away and
  2. that I found it before someone else did
Totally bummed though that I'll miss the bulk of the end-of-financial-year sales.

Dinner and wine with these girls tomorrow night - can't wait!!!
